Technology/Human Interface Idea

As I become closer and closer to becoming a teacher, technology continues to be more and more advanced.Trying to fight using technology in the classroom during this day and age would be dangerous. Children are being exposed to technology all of the time in classrooms. I believe that there are more advantages to integrating technology than disadvantages.

I think the most important topic that was discussed in the article was the concept of hybridity. They discuss how "creatively combining, juxtaposing, or crosspollinating new with traditional practices" is more successful than just trying to adapt to one specific technology. I definitely agree with using both new technologies and traditional practices in the art classroom. In high school, we utilized computers to do digital projects as well the projector to learn about new artists. Now there are new tools such as eyetoy and ibrush as well as programs for computers and ipads that can be incorporated into an art classroom. However, I don't believe that these new technologies should in any way replace traditional art. Painting, drawing, 3d art, etc should still be used alongside digital programs. For example, if you used the ibrush in class to show how there can be texture to a picture without it being 3d and then trying to show texture with painting or drawing. Another program I found that I would want to incorporate into my curriculum would be the iSTOPmotion. This seems like a great way to incorporate using traditional art forms such as drawing or clay and then take pictures of it to create a stop-motion movie. This program would just make it easier for the children to put their projects together and to figure out what the process is.

Another important point I thought that was brought up in the article is how teachers need to make sure they are keeping up with the technology and they understand how to use it. In high school we had to do a project using photoshop and a lot of students would ask the teacher questions and he wouldn't know how to answer. An important part of using technology and digital programs in the class is actually being able to teach students how to use it.
